ADULT ASSISTANCE AT BAND CAMP NEEDED

Attention Parents & Boosters: Ms Rachelle Giovingo has asked that I post the need for adult assistance at band camp. The heat was especially brutal for our kids today and with longer days the rest of camp it proves to be just has hard for them. If you can assist Ms Rachelle & Ms Dina AT ALL this week & next with passing out water & rendering aide to those students who need assistance PLEASE DO!! Even if only a few hours of your time, it is essential to making band camp a success for the whole program! When students are off the field it leaves gaps - we need our kids able to do their part and that means we need to do OURS! Thank You!

Winn Dixie Fundraiser

Dear Parents/Guardians/Band Members and Color Guard:

I just spoke with Winn Dixie about the "Bagging For Tips" that I have set up for August 3 and August 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It was confirmed that "Bagging For Tips" is no more.

However, Winn Dixie would like to continue to help is in any way. I asked if they wouldn't mind us playing some music out front and ask for donations. Winn Dixie stated that they would be fine with that. I DID NOT CANCEL my dates for August 3 and August 4 as I would like to designate those that signed up to play music, hold a bucket and ask for donations and may be have the guard do something as well. WE ARE STILL ON THE WINN DIXIE CALENDAR.

Please send my your thoughts. For those of you that signed up for "Bagging For Tips," if you are still interested in coming out to do the above, please let me know through the "Contact Form" on the website: www.phsmarchingband.com

What are some tips to help me get ready for band camp?

Band... Now Read This!!

It's quite a bit, but it will do you good to read and understand the info.

Best Practices for Band Camp: From the Book of SQUARE!
"Get your HEADS in the Game!"    How to prep yourself for camp
1.       Hydrate: drink water; drink more water; drink mo' better water! This will also help with step 4.

2.       Energize: find a good protein source (bacon, Boudin, nuts, peanut butter, beans, and meat in general); your body needs this as fuel. AVOID ENERGY DRINKS!!

3.       Acclimate: Go OUTSIDE! Yes, beyond the cozy confines of interior of your house. Get some sun; find an effective sunblock and lip balm that works for you (I prefer SPF 30 or above and Blister with some SPF for lips...the small tan jar). GET USE TO BEING ON YOR FEET!!

4.       Detox: Fruits and Veggies; Fiber; Water....Have some in generous quantities.  REDUCE or ELIMINATE carbonated drinks, sugar, and junk food carbs. Okay... you can still have a treat in there somewhere!

5.       SELF: Mentally prepare to lose your SELFISH (I-me) thinking to a SELFLESS (we-us) mindset. Think SYNERGY! Not sure...do some research!

"During the Heat of the Day" During Band Camp
"Fashionistas on Parade": Not a good idea to wear your best threads to camp! Make-up, perfume, jewelry, teddy bears, stuffed animals, flip flops, jeans, swimwear ...LEAVE IT ALL AT HOME! What works best: Comfortable sneakers/tennis shoes with socks; PE style shorts; a light colored T-Shirt with T-Shirt sleeves; a bandana/neckerchief; lightly scented deodorant sunglasses/shades; a baseball cap. Baby powder and/or Gold Bond can help eliminate the need for Boudreaux's Butt Paste!
DRINK WATER!  We will have plenty of bottled water. You can bring your own sans Sucre flavor packet (no sugar) for your Lunch water.
BIG OLE NOTE!!!  NOW READ THIS!! "Camelpaks" are not, I repeat, not a good idea for band camp, contrary to what you may have been told or have heard! From my standpoint as the director, I find them to be a focus-problem and a mechanical nuisance (and you're thinking...Yeah but!)  I would prefer you bring a personal sized water jug.

"What's for Lunch?"
Eat breakfast before you arrive each day!
Pack and Bring a sensible Camp Lunch  Protein/Carb/Fiber/Water Combo (an Entr e' of something like meat sandwiches; PBJ; leftover pizza; Boudin; a Fruit/Veggie choice; a small treat; Yogurt;  WATER (see above)
YOU MAY NOT LEAVE CAMPUS FOR LUNCH!! Don't even ask...the answer is NO!!

"At the End of the Day/ One Day More!"
1.       Be sure to police your area (that means PICK UP AFTER YOURSELF! And check to see that your BFF did too!)

2.       Secure your materials neatly and completely.

3.       Have reliable transportation to get you home. Get some rest. Let Mr. Square go Home, too!

NO SERVICE...No BARS...Out of Range...Out of MINUTES!
Be prepared to turn your cell phone in when you arrive each day OR leave it AT HOME!! We will store it in a secure place and you should get it at dismissal before you go home.
STUDENT CELL PHONE USE DURING CAMP WILL NOT IS A PROBLEM!!
The consequences for not abiding by the cell phone usage request contained in the text of this message may result in your dismissal from band. Do not try to find a loop hole. It will only cause you a problem.
Two Trains of Thought: You Choose!
Open-Minded Thinking: Band camp is a challenge. Band camp is fun. Band camp memories will be cherished.
Close-Minded Thinking: Band Camp can be hard. Band camp can be miserable. Band camp tragedies will live on as exaggerated horror stories.
It's not about you as an individual (I-me), but it has everything to do with the ensemble (we-us)!

SYNERGY!!

ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE NEEDED - BAND TRAILERS

We are looking for some moms and/or dads in band to help assist in pulling the band trailer to away football games, competitions, etc. The band trailer requires a 3/4 (quarter) ton truck or 1 ton truck with a 2 and 5/16" ball to hook up to the trailer. We also have other trailer that require assistance, such as our silver trailer for Strawberry Festival (which requires the same above), concession trailer and 2 cotton candy booths that require 1/2 ton truck.
Jimmy Schliegelmeyer has been graciously pulling these trailers around as needed, but we need some additional moms and/or dads to help because Jimmy will not always be available and we need to be able to have all moms and/or dads take turns.
If you are able to assist, please contact Booster Secretary, Tina Hooper, at (504) 858-6068 or you can contact us through the website contact form.

Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

Parents and Students:

We will have a Fundraising meeting (for the band trip) on Monday, July 15th at 6pm in the band room. We will be choosing a few parents to be in charge of individual fundraisers. If you are not able to be in charge of a fundraiser that's okay, we will need lots of parents and students to help in any way with the fundraisers. We can only be successful with everyone's help.

I hope to see everyone there!

Please contact me if you have any questions.
