Parking Lot Reminders

BAND... Now read this!!

Before you doze off, here are a couple of important reminders, concerning Parking and Driving.
1. Students... please do not park behind the bandroom. There will be a number of delivery/maintenance trucks in and out during the day. USE THE STUDENT PARKING LOT. Thank you.
2. WARNING!! The parking lots ARE NOT...I repeat... ARE NOT quarter mile tracks, NASCAR speedways, nor Interstate 12!! Some of you speed demons are about to cause a dangerous and serious problem all around. SAFETY is number 1! Not your "I got thus and so under the hood" ride. And I am sure that the SPEED LIMIT is 5 , count them 5 MPH!! It would be ashamed for you to lose your Parking Privileges on campus this year! Mama Cro is watching!
Get some rest... See you all in the morning.  WE START at 8:00 am.

TWIB 27 Jul Band Camp Week 2

Band… Now read and understand this!

Thank you all for a great first week for the 201415 Band year! We all had a great time at the “Drums at Cajun Field” show this past Monday. And I know that many of you are looking forward to the quarterfinals show “in a theater near you” on Thursday, 7 Aug …yes, that is the 1st day of classes! Congrats again to Scott, Zack, Alum Tyler, and Percussion Instructor Tyler for a fantastic performance with the Louisiana Stars!! To all of the mom and pop boosters, who pitched in with EVERYTHING from Monday’s roll call to and through Saturday’s dismissal, I send out a hearty thank you! We could not have done it without you.

Week One… Wow! We got a lot accomplished! Fundamentals are coming along nicely. Guard is looking sharp and focused! Majors are on top of it! In the midst of the scramble, percussion is moving ahead! Hornline is sounding strong and promising! We have laid a good foundation for what we are building

We have a busy and challenging week ahead. Be prepared for more music, drill and procedures, meet even more new friends, SWEAT, “Fun”damentals, and spirit days. We’ll be outside as much as possible, weather permitting.
Here are some gentle reminders:
·         OFFICERS: Please be on deck at 7:30 each morning. Be prepared to get our day movin’ and groovin’ for everyone! AWARENESS and INIATIVE!!
·         Cell Phones…TURN THEM IN!!
·         Remember to eat a good breakfast BEFORE you arrive in the morning! Bring and eat a sensible lunch. HYDRATE before, during, and after our workday.
·         PARTICIPATE fully in the activities all day long. Don’t put yourself in jeopardy of losing a spot in the organization!
·         Don’t Forget: You got information (handout) from Mrs. Crovetto about placing an ad or announcement in the 2014 Football program, AND a “COOKIE DOUGH” Fundraising packet.
·         Let’s HAVE FUN!!

Missing Band Forms

ATTENTION ALL PARENTS AND STUDENTS!!
FORMS! FORMS! FORMS! BAND FORMS!
We are missing a lot of forms, especially MEDICAL FORMS. Please, please get your forms in as soon as possible (like yesterday). We are through the first week of a successful band camp, and for those students who have needed some medical assistance, without the forms, we cannot administer or assist in the proper fashion without necessity of parent's permission and what they are allergic to, etc. We are asking for all parents on deck with getting these forms in please. Please handle your business if this pertains to you. We understand the summer has been busy, with vacations and such, but these forms were given May 27th and have been being mentioned all of the time since then. Please, please help us with accomplishing this as this is very big deal and very much appreciated. Thank you.
If you have already handed in your forms, please do not reply. Thank you.

What are some tips to help me get ready for band camp?

Band... Now Read This!!

It's quite a bit, but it will do you good to read and understand the info.

Best Practices for
Band Camp: From the Book of SQUARE!

"Get your HEADS in the Game!" How to prep yourself for camp

1.
Hydrate: drink water; drink more
water; drink mo' better water! This will also help with step 4.

2.
Energize: find a good protein source
(bacon, Boudin, nuts, peanut butter, beans, cracklins, and meat in general); your body
needs this as fuel. AVOID ENERGY DRINKS!!

3.
Acclimate: Go OUTSIDE! Yes, beyond
the cozy confines of interior of your house. Get some sun; find an effective
sunblock and lip balm that works for you (I prefer SPF 30 or above and Blister
with some SPF for lips...the small tan jar). GET USE TO BEING ON YOR FEET!!

4.
Detox: Fruits and Veggies; Fiber;
Water....Have some in generous quantities.
REDUCE or ELIMINATE carbonated drinks, sugar, and junk food carbs. Okay...
you can still have a treat in there somewhere!

5.
SELF: Mentally prepare to lose your
SELFISH (I-me) thinking to a SELFLESS (we-us) mindset. ThinkSYNERGY! Not sure...do
some research!

"During the Heat
of the Day" During Band Camp

"Fashionistas on Parade": Not a good
idea to wear your best threads to camp! Make-up, perfume, jewelry, teddy bears,
stuffed animals, flip flops, jeans, swimwear ...LEAVE IT ALL AT HOME! What works best: Comfortable
sneakers/tennis shoes with socks; PE style shorts; a light colored T-Shirt with
T-Shirt sleeves; a bandana/neckerchief; lightly scented deodorant
sunglasses/shades; a baseball cap. Baby powder and/or Gold Bond can help
eliminate the need for Boudreaux's Butt Paste!

DRINK WATER! We will have plenty of bottled water. You can
bring your own sans Sucre flavor packet (no sugar) for your Lunch water. Crystal light.Dasani/Gatorade/ Powerade drops

BIG OLE NOTE!!! NOW READ THIS!! "Camelpaks"
are not, I repeat, not a good idea for band camp, contrary to what you may have
been told or have heard! From my standpoint as the director, I find them to be
a focus-problem and a mechanical nuisance (and you're thinking...Yeah but!) I would prefer you bring a personal sized water jug.

"What's for
Lunch?"

Eat breakfast before you arrive each day!

Pack and Bring a sensible Camp Lunch Protein/Carb/Fiber/Water Combo (an Entre' of `something like meat sandwiches; PBJ; leftover pizza; Boudin; a Fruit/Veggie choice; a small treat; Yogurt; WATER
(see above)

YOU MAY NOT LEAVE CAMPUS FOR LUNCH!! Don't even ask...the answer is NO!!

"At the End of the
Day/ One Day More!"

1.
Be sure to police your area (that means PICK UP
AFTER YOURSELF! And check to see that your BFF did too!)

2.
Secure your materials neatly and completely.

3.
Have reliable transportation to get you home.
Get some rest. Let Mr. Square go Home, too!

NO SERVICE...No BARS...Out
of Range...Out of MINUTES!

Be prepared to turn your cell phone in when you arrive each
day OR leave it AT HOME!! We will store it in a secure place and you should get
it at dismissal before you go home.

STUDENT CELL PHONE USE DURING CAMP WILL NOT IS A PROBLEM!!

The consequences for not abiding by the cell phone usage
request contained in the text of this message may result in your dismissal from
band. Do not try to find a loop hole. It will only cause you a problem.

Two Trains of Thought: You
Choose!

Open-Minded Thinking
Band camp is a challenge. Band camp is fun. Band camp memories will be
cherished

Close-Minded Thinking
Band Camp can be hard. Band camp can be miserable. Band camp tragedies will
live on as exaggerated horror stories.

It's not about you as
an individual (I-me), but it has everything to do with the ensemble (we-us)!

SYNERGY!!  (It works together, if together, we WORK!)

One time at Band Camp.....

Band... Now read this!!
2014 Band camp is right around the corner! Before you know it, we'll be having "fun with FUNdamentals", stretching and conditioning, enjoying long tones, loving breathing gym, balancing books, glide stepping, and so many other particulars that make our band family special. For now, here are some things to consider:
  1. DETOX  Time to get into a "band camp friendly"  regimen. Food intake is a good place to start. Ease up on the sugars, empty carbs, and so-called ENERGY drinks!! Drink plenty of water, have some protein (boudin and/or bacon is always good!), eat FRUIT and VEGGIES!!
  2. ACCLIMATE Go outside! Get use to the heat, sunshine, and humidity! This time of year is especially HOT, HUMID, and HAZY! Marching Band is an OUTDOOR activity! Get ready!
  3. REST and RESTORE  check your bedtimes and morning wake-up times! And get some restorative sleep... This can't really happen if you're texting and/or gaming all night!
  4. COMMUNICATE and CONNECT  We've been spread out most of the summer, so check in with each other. Read the official messages from me as director and Miss Tina (booster president), as we will post info on charms, band website, FB group page, phone calls, etc. PLEASE refrain from posting your own comments/speculations on the official sites... The OFFICIAL sites are for group information, not as a personal forum, please. As James Brown might comment, "Static...Don't start none, won't be none!"
  5. 1415 Band Student Leadership... We will have work days this week Wednesday and Thursday at the bandroom, to prepare for camp.
This Fall Marching Season is going to be great! I am looking forward to having Fun with "Night Watch" throughout every rehearsal and performance! I hope you are excited, too!
Once again, welcome to the 2014-15 PHS Greenwave Band year, another fun adventure in

 Personal Responsibility In Developing Excellence!!

AmazonSmile Fundraiser Program

Parents/Students:

Band...Now read this!!

I have registered Ponchatoula High School Band Boosters on Amazon.com. If you have an account on Amazon, go on your account and register us as your charitable organization so that when you order through Amazon, PHS Band will receive a percentage every time. If you do not have an account and would like to create one, go on amazon, create account and register our organization for future purchases.

Every time you purchase through Amazon for anything while having our organization registered under charitable organizations, a percentage will come back to the band. This is a great fundraiser all year round. Thank you.

Tell your family and friends to do the same. Thank you.

Tina Hooper
President, Band Boosters

(Additions to original post added by: Julie Rock-Chatellier)

For more information on how to register and how the AmazonSmile Program works, please visit: https://smile.amazon.com/about

Basically the way it works is instead of going to amazon.com you go to smile.amazon.com (even if you already have an account). Every time you make a purchase from smile.amazon.com .5% of the purchase price will be donated (at no cost to you) to the PHS Band.

It's easy to start - just go www.smile.amazon.com and register Ponchatoula High School Band Boosters as your organization of choice. Then each time you shop - make sure you go to www.smile.amazon.com (instead of just regular amazon.com)

Message from your Director

Here's a special SHOUT-OUT THANK YOU to everyone that helped out with the concessions booth at the 'fireworks show" this past Thursday. Wonderful job and good cooperation in everything from ordering and gathering supplies, pick-up/delivery, set-up, cooking, serving, money handling, cleanup, and storage (hope I got it all!). You helped to make this a success for our band program. And we had fun, too!

Almost two weeks before BAND CAMP!!

I'll send out more messages, more frequently as start of the 14-15 band year approaches.

Heads up!! Might want to think about giving your system a good detoxification and get some outside activity (in the SUN!) going in the next week or so! Mainly, less carbonation, more water!

Have a good weekend! See you all soon!

Cookie Dough & Carwash Fundraiser

Parents/Students:

You asked and now you shall receive:

There will be a cookie dough fundraiser during band camp.
The funds generated from this fundraiser will be for the general fund.
This year is not a trip year and so the funds go to the general fund.

But don't be discouraged, because fun is around the corner:

We are having our first fundraiser of the school year.

We will have a car wash on Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at O'Reillys Auto Parts in Ponchatoula. I ask that you please represent by wearing a band shirt or green Ponchatoula shirt and appropriate shorts. You may wash the cars, rinse the cars or simply play some good ole fashion music. Please go to the band website to sign up for this event. Funds generated from this event will go into the student accounts toward band fees or any other band related fee.

If you have a sponge, bucket or hose or sham or whatever, please bring. O'Reilly's will help provide the rest. Water and snacks will be provided for the kids that participate. If you come to help, you must work or play music to get credit.

Thank you.

July 3rd Concessions

Parents/Students:

Parents - you have signed up for July 3 concession help, set up help and clean up crew. If you don't know what time you signed up, get in touch with me through FB and I will respond. For those of you that did not sign up but may be planning to come by and help out, we start set up at 1:00 p.m. The gates open at 5:00 p.m. Clean up will end approximately 9:00 p.m. or 10:00 p.m. I am not sure what time the fireworks begin, but that is about the time we start cleaning up and getting everything put back where it belongs in the trailer. Although students are not allowed to handle money, if you would like to come out and help set up or help clean up and load trailer, please do so.

DRESS CODE: If you have a Ponchatoula High Band shirt, please wear it. If you don't, please wear a green shirt with Ponchatoula on it or something with Ponchatoula.
