TWIB 23-30 March 2014

Band...Now Read This!!

Congrats to all for a great "MIOSM" week of activities! We are still busy, no doubt, but now with a lot checked off on the "To Do" list. Thank you all again for excellent performances and "service above self" with the Parish Festival and Mid-Semester Concert. Guard, you had a beautiful run at St. Amant. Now let's finish strong at the Championship Show this coming Saturday!

Everyone, please check the TWIB. If you are going on the Disney trip, you MUST attend the Tuesday evening special meeting at 7:00 pm.

GHAP appears several times on TWIB. I suggest that you take heed. New music for the May 6th Spring Concert has been distributed, brush up on Patriotic Salute (remember from pregame?), Disney's Magical Marches, etc. We have Strawberry Festival, Solo and Small Ensemble Assessment/Festival, Jazz Fest at SLU, and more coming in April, in addition to the Disney trip.

I am looking forward to seeing you all on campus!

Disney Chaperone Duties

In the next week, we will be working on the chaperone duties schedule in order to have it available for the mandatory Disney meeting Tuesday, March 25th. One of the requirements of parents/family members being able to book their trip through the band was the ability to perform chaperone duties during the trip. The duties include but are not limited to: food preparation and distribution, supervision of a group of students in the parks, room check and hallway monitoring. I do not have a schedule yet but assume food prep would start at approximately 6:00am and hallway monitoring at night would go until approximately 1-2 am.

We would like your input as to your preferences of duties. We would like to accommodate everyone's wishes but can make no promises. In order for everyone to have a great trip, the duties will be divided in a fair and equitable method among all adults booked for this trip whether riding the bus or driving on your own. If you have a preference of duties, please let me, Julie Rock Chatellier, Dina Poulin or Tina Hooper know. If you like, you can respond to this post.

Post-Argus Post

Band... Now read this!

Kudos, thanks, and big hugs to everyone of you for today's Krewe of Argus parade. My hat goes off to you all for hanging in there, doing your best to represent our school and community, especially in today's very UNPLEASANT inclement weather. Now that my toes and fingers have feeling again, I'll head to the kitchen and make dinner (which just might be king cake and coffee). I hope that you all are home safe and warm. Enjoy this evening with your families.

Notes for ARGUS parade

Band. Band, Band, Band, Band....Now read this!

Here are the words for tomorrow's Argus parade:

1. Yes, it will be cold. Dress in layers. The parade rolls....

2. Yes, there is a chance of rain. We have ponchos and umbrella bags.

3. I am watching the weather forecasts on several on several sources, and they all predict cool temps, breeziness, and a chance of precipitation for tomorrow.

4. The bandroom will open at 6:30 am. Of course, I'll let you in as soon as I am there.

5. YOU MUST EAT A FULL BREAKFAST before you arrive! Bacon, sausage, eggs, peanut butter, boudin, protein!!! Ye shall not march by pop tarts alone! Might be a good idea to bring a return bus ride snack.

6. Again, dress in layers, maybe even double socks.

7. Be on top of your individual performance game, so that you can contribute to the cause. Let's minimize the sick bay wagon to a MINIMUM!! Like "0" would be maximum. Everyone marches. Banner/percussionists, be prepared to rotate into the groove (we seriously need more cowbell!!). Let's all think alignment and distance...you'll see better tomorrow in the daylight. We'll have a chat about some other pointers in the morning. We have a good chance to earn some $$$ in the "Rhythm of the Route" band adjudication.

8. Pizza and drinks after we return to 19452.

9. Get some rest. See you all in the morning.

Yard Sale

You asked for a yard sale and we delivered. We have a yard sale for the band on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at PHS from 6am (set up), start at 8am - until the foot traffic becomes nada, none, non-existent, etc. You get it.

Please let me know if you going to be heading your own table, or you or someone you know will be donating items to the band for this day. We will store items at PHS band room for easier haul. Thank you.

Disney Shirt Offer

ATTENTION PARENTS: DISNEY ALERT:

A1 Signworks (one of our band sponsors) has made an amazing offer to the band!! Unfortunately, in an attempt to keep the trip price as low as possible, we had to eliminate the shirts we had hope to have printed. Well, A1 has made us a SWEET offer!! If we can gather at least 25 parent/chaperone/sibling orders, they will GIVE US, FREE OF CHARGE, shirts for the EVERY student attending the Disney Trip!!! COST: $20 for 2 shirts/ per person (to be ...worn Tues & Wed in the park).

We MUST gather a minimum of 25 orders for A1 to provide us with this offer. They are not making any money on this, and need at least 25 of the $20 orders in order to cover their cost!

If you are interested, please start getting your orders turned in. A note with names & shirt sizes along with cash or check should be put in the drop box or brought to the booster meeting next week. If we do not meet the minimum 25 order, your money will be refunded to you. REMEMBER: students shirts do not need to be paid for - only adult/chaperone/siblings. We will get a shirt size list for students together separately.

If you, as a parent, are interested. This is NOT mandatory for chaperones HOWEVER, it is highly recommended and Mr. James I. Square would REALLY like to see everyone being visible as a group while in the park. Please comment below so we can get an idea if we are going to meet the 25 minimum

Thank you

A Quick Note about Isis and Argus parades

Band... now read this!

Thank you all for a great trek in last night's parade. The Krewe of Isis is always happy have the Greenwave Band as part of the LIVE musical entertainment. Thank you to all of the support crew of parents/boosters for EVERYTHING you do in our parade events. In the Rhythm of the Route Band "contest", we earned a 2nd place ranking (trophy, ribbon, and nice prize $$). Congratulations to Hammond High School Band and Mr. Earnest LaBee, director, for capturing 1st place and $$$ coins. A fine showing for Tangipahoa parish bands, with significant and CONSIDERABLE economic impact for our programs! And for us, slap dab in the middle of Winterguard, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Percussion Ensemble season... not bad.

Rest up, y'all! Tuesday morning will be here soon. Let's all be there on time, full of good breakfast, hydrated, fully engaged, focused, attentive, and active in your "Personal Responsibility In Developing Excellence!" No reason why we can't earn some more $$!

It's still about SYNERGY!!

Band... now read this!

Here is a message that Mrs. Dina posted on the FB band page:

Boosters, 3 down, 1 to go! "Many hands (or in this case FEET!) make for light (or lighter) work" has definitely been the case so far. Thank you all! Now, let's soak those feet and get ready for the grand finale on Tuesday morning. Arrival is at 6:45am. Let's see some new faces! No experience needed! Come support the kids! Who's in?

Krewe of ISIS Parade Saturday 1 Mar 14

Band... Now read this!!!

The bandroom will open today between 2:30 and 3:00 pm. Attendance will be checked at 3:30. YOU MUST BE FULLY DRESSED for the parade at that time. Same instructions as last week's Caesar parade concerning chairs, uniform bags, shakos.

The route tonight will be the same 5.5 miles. The judges should be very close to the 1st right turn onto Veterans Blvd. We will play through the turn, repeating the Hey Baby and Pass the Peas, and we will add 1000 Dances once we are finished in this area. And we will do something similar for the Grand Stands near the Causeway underpass.

Tuesday's Argus parade follows the same route (you should be able to see where we are marching for a change.!)

Next Saturday's Krewe of Erin Parade is in town, more than likely the same short route. More information of this one later.

Enjoy your morning. See you soon!
